St Paul’s Road, off Grange Road in Hartlepool, was closed to the public from around 7.30pm after officers answered a report that a man had a firearm.
But the area was re-opened once it emerged that there was no weapon present.
The man was arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken into protective custody.
