Driver escapes unhurt after overturning his car in Hartlepool

A MAN escaped with only a minor injury after his car flipped onto its roof on a country road.

One lane of the road into Hartlepool from Elwick, at the Church Lane bridge, is partially-blocked after the incident, which involved a green Volkswagen Polo.

The incident was reported at 12.45pm on Friday and an off-duty police officer was on the scene immediately.

The driver managed to get out of the vehicle and escaped with only a minor injury, to his hand, say police.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We were called to the Church Lane bridge at 12.45pm after a one-vehicle road traffic collision on the bend outside Elwick.

“The vehicle was on its roof, but the driver managed to get out of the vehicle.

“One lane of the road is partially blocked.

“The man had an injury to his hand.”
