Driver hurt in rush-hour road crash in Hartlepool

A driver was taken to hospital after a rush-hour road crash in Hartlepool.

The man had to be cut free from his Volkswagen vehicle by fire fighters following a collision with a Ford Fiesta on the busy Stockton Road stretch of the A689 today.

Two crews from the town’s Stranton fire station were called to the scene, near to the Golden Bird restaurant, at about 5.30pm today.

Police sealed off a section of Stockton Road while emergency services responded.

The crash caused major delays for drivers on the route.

The roof of the Volkswagen car was cut off by fire fighters in order for the trapped driver to be released.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known.
