MUSICAL youngsters have been getting into the samba beat and enjoying in-school drumming sessions.

The pupils at Catcote School Business and Enterprise College, in Hartlepool, are being taught how to play the drums by a newly-appointed percussionist.

Alex Tustin has been instructing the staff and students at the Catcote Road school which plans to set up its own samba drumming club which will perform in the community.

Headteacher Alan Chapman said: “The drumming sessions have been fantastic and the feedback from staff and students has been very good.

“The students are delighted to have the opportunity to play and are excited about participating in our own samba drumming club. What is so good about the sessions is students of all abilities can take part, it is totally inclusive.

“It also gives the students experience of working as a team, builds their self confidence and gives them the opportunity to engage in the community when the club starts playing around the town.”
