A TALENTED team of songwriters will debut a charity single in aid of poorly youngster this weekend.

The performance is part of the Christmas celebrations at Hartlepool’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre this Sunday, which will see Father Christmas arrive accompanied by a family of real reindeer.

One of the highlights will be a performance of ‘Christmas Lullaby’ by Hartlepool singer songwriters Kate Williams and Paul Hart.

The pair, who are both part of the creative arts charity Red Dreams, have recorded the song in tribute to two-year-old Bradley Lowery, from Blackhall, who is battling childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

Paul, 28, from Greatham, said: “It was Kate’s idea to write the song after she was inspired by Bradley.

“It’s an uplifting ballad which tells Bradley’s story but also with lots of traditional Christmas elements.

“We have had so much fun getting the song together, there’s been joy, laughter and a few tears.”

Middleton Grange has a packed programme of events on Sunday to herald the start of its Christmas celebrations, including Santa’s arrival, the family of reindeer (situated outside of Argos) and performances from the Bishop Auckland and District Pipes and Drums.

The fun and build up from Radio Hartlepool will start at 11am followed by a parade at noon heralding Santa’s arrival along with members of Hartlepool Round Table.

Copies of the charity single will be on sale at Middleton Grange, while downloads will be available from iTunes from Tuesday, November 19.

Red Dreams is also opening a Christmas shop at the shopping centre in the former Greenwoods store selling arts, crafts and Christmas gift ideas.

Lyrics to Christmas Lullaby:

A new day dawns, the sun reflects the crisp white snow.

A life evolves, taking every day exactly as it comes;

Recall a mother’s love, a father’s joy.

A little soldier, a little boy.

A shining star upon the topmost highest bough,

Wrap you safe inside a wreath of love, without ever asking why…

A fragile hand holds onto hope,

We share our strength to fight, to cope.

A new bird flies, the bravest one,

spreads its wings and harks it’s song.

And so, to you, I sing its tune

From morning rise to setting moon.

We’ll chase the wind and touch the sky,

This one’s for you, your lullaby.

A prayer, a smile, your gift is given,

A Christmas wish revived.

We’ll journey down these extra miles.

And, I know, that these twists and turns can test our cherished time.

But, one and all, we’ll stand by…

A fragile hand holds onto hope,

We share our strength to fight, to cope.

A new bird flies, the bravest one,

spreads its wings and harks it’s song.
