SPORTY youngsters enjoyed a day of cycling, climbing and shooting as they got the chance to try out a variety of activities.
Year 5 pupils from St Joseph’s RC Primary School, in Hartlepool, Hart Primary School, in Hart Village, and St Peter’s Elwick CE Primary School, in Elwick Village, swapped the classroom for the outdoors.
They made the trip to Summerhill Country Park, off Catcote Road, where they got the unique opportunity to try out rock climbing, archery and showed off their skills on a BMX.

The inter-school sports exhibition day was the first of its kind. But organisers at Hartlepool Borough Council hailed it a huge success and said they are planning for many more in the future.
Adam Reah, the council’s outdoor activities co-ordinator, said: “The feedback has been brilliant.
“Every kid thought it was great and the teachers were really positive as well.”
Adam said the event was organised to give youngsters the chance to try out sports they wouldn’t normally get the chance to enjoy. He said the key element was encouraging youngsters to get out of the house and enjoy activities in the outdoors.
Adam added: “That has to be the main message we try and get across.
“There are so many activities youngsters can enjoy in the outdoors and we want them to give them a try.”
The youngsters who tried out BMXing were also taught the importance of staying safe on the bike.
“So many kids who use the track at Summerhill don’t really know how to,” said Adam.
“We showed them how to ride the track safely and got the main safety messages across.
“The day was really successful, we are looking to organise more like this in the future.”
