CHILDREN have celebrated some new arrivals at their school.
The four baby chicks called Augustus, Verucka, Violet and Mike after characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have been born at Throston Primary School to the delight of pupils and staff.
Pupils have been learning about the changes in animals and had successfully raised butterflies. But they did not expect chicken eggs to fertilise.
Teacher Lynne Currell said: “We’ve tried duck eggs in the past to no avail, so we were so happy to witness the birth of four chicks in the school.
“One group of pupils were in the room at the time the first of the eggs hatched.
“The response has been amazing.”
