College demolition on track

THE demolition of an old college building to make way for a large car park is on schedule.

The former Hartlepool College of Further Education site, in Stockton Street (above), is being flattened as part of a five-month regeneration scheme.

Staff and students left the building last year to move next door into a new state-of-the-art £53m facility.

Miller Construction workers are now working on the former site that is dwarfed by the new structure. They are gradually pulling it to pieces to make way for a large car park and landscaped grounds.

College bosses say the demolition work is going to plan and the work should be completed by the end of June.

Staff and students moved into the impressive new building in August last year after six years of planning.

It has already been hailed as a success with the Duke of York officially opening the building last month and praising the college for its commitment to giving young people the confidence to go on into the workplace.
