College hosts basketball showcase

A COLLEGE is looking for basketball players to join its highly successful academy.

East Durham College, in Peterlee, will be holding a basketball showcase event on Wednesday, June 1, from 10am until 1pm to give potential students a chance to find out more.

The college is appealing for male and female basketball players aged between 16 and 18 to join the academy.

Bosses say the academy gives people the opportunity to play basketball while studying at one of the best sports colleges in the North-East.

The showcase event will include of a tour of the college and its sports facilities and the chance to meet the coaching team and to take part in a training session.

Rose Fraser, sports development officer at the college, said: “We have joined forces with the Durham Wildcats and Durham University to launch our improved 16-plus basketball academy that will start in September.

“This is a very exciting partnership which I am sure will result in a lot of positive outcomes for the future of basketball in the North- East.”
