A series of events are planned for next month to introduce potential candidates to apprenticeships.

East Durham College’s apprenticeship information and initial assessment sessions have been especially created for school leavers.

It is believed there has never been a better time to consider an apprenticeship.

At the events, students can find out all they need to know about apprenticeships, from how do you apply to progressing on to university via the apprenticeship route.

During the sessions, students will take an initial assessment in both maths and English, once completed, this will then enable people to get apprenticeship interviews much faster with local employers.

The dates for the sessions are as follows and are grouped by industry sectors: Wednesday, June 1, 9am to noon: horticulture, agriculture and animal care, 1.30pm to 4.30pm: business and IT; Thursday, June 2, 9am to noon: Construction trades, then 1.30pm to 4.30pm: engineering; Friday, June 3, 9am to noon: hair and beauty, 1.30pm to 4.30pm: health and social care.

East Durham College apprenticeship training consultant, Hayley Clifton, said: “This is a great opportunity for school leavers who want to get more information to come along and see the great options East Durham College has to offer.

“On the day we will be able to help find students the best apprenticeship and course that fits their needs and be able to speed-up the process by getting them through initial assessments.”
