A college tutor clinched a national award from Dragons’ Den Peter Jones.

Jill Campbell, who teaches at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, at East Durham College, was named the organisation’s Enterprise Tutor of the Year, after being nominated by her students.

She said: “Winning the award was a massive surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I am truly honoured to have received such a fantastic award.”

Jill travelled from the Peterlee college to be presented with the honour by Peter Jones, during the academy’s graduation ceremony, at Freemasons’ Hall in London.

Other award winners announced on the day included the National Entrepreneur of the Year, the Inspirational Student and the Business Enterprise Manager of the Year.

Alice Barnard, chief executive officer of the Peter Jones Foundation, said: “Jill has been teaching the course for several years and has become an expert in its delivery.

“Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is completely dedicated to the success of her students.

“She raises students’ aspirations and confidence, which is very important to us, and as a result they speak extremely highly of her.

“Jill thoroughly deserves this extra recognition.”

During the ceremony there were video messages of congratulation from celebrities, including the Duke of York, Alan Sugar and Dermot O’Leary.
