Owton Manor Primary School resembled a set from a Disney film as pupils spent a day dressed as their favourite character.

The youngsters were in for a treat when an acting company came in to school and performed their own showing of Disney favourite Beauty and the Beast.

And the youngsters got involved with the fun, dressing up to help make the occasion extra special.

Lynda Sherry, deputy headteacher and literacy leader at the school, in Eskdale Road, said: “The children absolutely loved it.

“They all made a huge effort and enjoyed the whole experience.”

As well as the fun element to the dress up day and Beauty and the Beast production, the day was also organised to aid the youngsters in the classroom, specifically in their literacy lessons.

Mrs Sherry added: “The idea was to help give the children some inspiration for their own writing and literacy projects.

“And judging by the response we have had from the children it’s done exactly that.”

And it was not just the children who got involved with the fun.

“Not everyone got dressed up but a lot of the children and staff got involved,” added Mrs Sherry. I’m sure it’s something we will look to do again in the future.”
