STUDENTS were hailed for their efforts at an awards night.
East Durham College staged its Annual Student Awards which recognises and celebrates the achievements of the students from across all areas of the college.
The ceremony took place at the college’s Peterlee Campus and was attended by more than 300 guests, including the 60 award winners, their family and friends, college staff and governors.
The biggest award of the night, Student of the Year, went to Rachel Storey, 19, from Peterlee, who studies catering and hospitality at the college.
An overwhelmed Rachel couldn’t believe she had won the award but was proud to collect the coveted prize.
Rachel said: “I am still in shock, I had no idea that I was going to win. I have worked really hard at the college since starting my course and my confidence has been slowly building up but this is a huge boost.”
