High Tunstall College of Science’s Year Eight team have been crowned Hartlepool Town Rugby Champions 2015.

The school, on Elwick Road, claimed the title after victories over Dyke House and English Martyrs.

Using their large squad to their advantage, High Tunstall defeated Dyke House 35-15 in their first game.

Ben Wainwright, Head of Year Seven at the school, said: “The boys knew they had to come out of the blocks firing and that is exactly what they did.”

Jared Rigby and Robert Boddy both scored two tries as the school lead 20-10 at half-time.

Despite dealing with difficult wind conditions, Tunstall were able to close out the game in the second half.

High Tunstall followed up their opening win with a 55-0 thrashing of English Martyrs.

Ben said: “Having got in their stride during the first game, the boys began to move through the gears considerably.”

Captain Will Cameron and debutants Hassan Burba and Kurt Lennon were among the try scorers in the big win.

The combined results meant High Tunstall were crowned champions and will now compete alongside the best schools in Cleveland in the Tees Valley round.
