EVER fancied a day at school in the life of literary heroes Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and co? Well 160 primary school pupils enjoyed exactly that – taking part in a muggle studies class, creating potions and visiting the Chamber of Secrets.
The excited youngsters swapped their usual subjects for the opportunity to explore the skills of becoming a Hogwarts witch or wizard as the staff and students at High Tunstall College of Science put on a fun-packed Harry Potter-themed day for them.
Youngsters from across the town got the chance to take a first glance at secondary school life while enjoying the quirky wizardry activities organised for them throughout the day.
They even got the chance to sit their very own Hogwarts mock exams, the Ordinary Wizarding Levels.
Behind the themed games and activities, the youngsters were working on maths and science, all on the theme of Harry Potter.
They enjoyed maths games while also getting the chance to try out a number of scientific experiments in the school’s labs.
Kelly Walton, programme leader for science at the school, in Elwick Road, said: “It was a magical day where the fundamentals of science and maths were combined with the mystery and adventure of a wizarding school.
“The Year 6 pupils were all brilliant. We loved having them with us and they all seemed to love the day, it was something different for them and loads of fun.”
Primary school pupils across Hartlepool will be invited back to High Tunstall in December when this time they will get the chance to meet Buzz Lightyear and solve a murder mystery with the English faculty.
