A HEADTEACHER has paid tribute to her staff and pupils as she prepares to move on to her next challenge.

Mary Frain, 44, will take up the reins at St Teresa’s RC Primary School, in Hartlepool, from September after leaving her post at St Cuthbert’s Primary School, in Stratford Road.

Miss Frain, who is originally from Peterlee but now lives in Wingate, has been at the school for the past eight years but is excited about starting her new challenge.

St Cuthbert’s received a “good” inspection from Ofsted in September last year and Miss Frain said she is pleased to leave the school on a strong footing.

Miss Frain said: “I’m leaving a really lovely group of children who are very happy and welcoming and I am leaving a really strong team of hardworking staff.

“I have been here eight years and wanted a new challenge.

“St Teresa’s is a bigger school and I am looking forward to the challenge.

“I have really enjoyed working in Hartlepool because you get to know everybody.”

Miss Frain was a deputy headteacher at a school in Peterlee before taking up the role of headteacher at St Cuthbert’s eight years ago.

St Cuthbert’s has 220 children plus a nursery while her new school has 315 children plus a nursery.

Miss Frain starts her new post at St Teresa’s, in Callander Road, in September.

Joanne Wilson, headteacher at St Bernadette’s RC Primary School in Nunthorpe, will replace Miss Frain, who wished her well.
