Little ones brought traffic to a standstill in their village when they did their annual sponsored walk.

The Rosemary Lane Nursery fancy dress event has been held for more than 20 years with kids and families donning costumes to make it a fun-filled day.

The procession leaves the Easington Village nursery and walks well over a mile to the bottom of the shops at Easington Colliery before turning around and heading to Easington Colliery Primary School for a picnic.

As usual the event was well supported by residents along the route who came out of their houses to cheer the children on.

Ann Fenwick, a member of staff at the nursery, said the money is still coming in, but they hope to raise more than £1,000 and possibly match last year’s total of £1,300. Money raised from the event goes towards activities and trips for the children.

She said: “The event went really well. We were lucky that it didn’t rain because it had been horrible the day before, but we managed to complete the walk and stay dry.

“We did the same route as usual and once again we had huge support from our families.

“People came out to greet the children and cars were pipping for us. We even had them stopping their cars to throw money into the collection buckets.”

Ann said everyone who took part had a good time and the youngsters did really well walking so far.
