A COLLEGE principal underwent a hair-raising experience after being “kidnapped”.
Hartlepool Sixth Form College principal was jokingly taken captive and then held to ransom by a group of students in an event for Comic Relief.
The students, dubbed the Ricknappers went round the college collecting cash for the charity.
Students could chose to put money in a bucket to save, or punish the principal.
As expected the students raised more than £270 to see their principal punished and had his legs waxed in front of a packed theatre audience.
Mr Wells said: “This was an extremely painful ordeal, but all in a good cause. Just before the waxing I was wondering if it was a good idea and appealed for other staff to volunteer. However, nobody accepted my invitation.”
The stunt was the idea of sixth former Jess Lister, 16, and was joined by friends Alex Bolster, Robyn Wainwright and Josie Gardler.
Jess said: “He is a pretty cool principal and agreed to go along with it.”
The money raised will form part of the funds which the college in Blakelock Road, Hartlepool, raises every year for Comic Relief.
