A school has joined an elite group to be given an award for promoting health and fitness for pupils.
Easington Church of England Primary School has been awarded the Youth Sport Trust GOLD Quality Mark.
Bosses say they are the first school in county Durham to be given the accolade and one of only three in the North-East and North Yorkshire.
The Youth Sport Trust is an independent charity devoted to changing young people’s lives through sport.
Headteacher Andrea Swift said: “Each class does two hours of PE a week and one of them is first thing in the morning as it gets pupils ready for learning.
“We do lots of PE in school as well as inter-school competitions, cluster competitions within the Easington area, and we have links with the SAFC Foundation and various other sports organisatuions including Hartlepool United and others in East Durham.
“We are delighted to get this award and especially that we are the first school in County Durham. It shows our commitment to PE and sports and hopefully it will make a difference.”
