Sacred Heart pupils looking forward to Olympics

The Year 6 pupils at Sacred Heart Primary School now all know how to take part in a well-constructed debate after a classroom project.

But they were all in agreement that the London Olympics will be fantastic for the country as a whole.

Brandon Casey, 10, said: “I think the Olympics will be really good for the economy as people will get lots of jobs in building and travelling.

“I’m really looking forward to the event myself. It will be good to watch.

“In class we have been learning how to have a balanced argument, it has been really useful.”

Felicity Skidmore, 11, is looking beyond the Olympic Games.

She said: “After the Olympics have finished, athletes and the community will still be able to use the facilities which were built for the Games. The facilities are going to be the very best so it’s great that people will get chance to use some of them.

“Our debates project has been very interesting.

“We have learnt that everyone has different views on subjects.”

Hannah Reece, 10, said: “I think one of the best things about the Olympics is the fact that organisers have planned to regenerate the wasteland.

“It’s good to look after the environment.

“It will be brilliant to watch on the television as well. I’m looking forward to it.”

Matthew Reed, 11, is hoping Britain impresses the thousands of tourists during the games.

He said: “It’s good because the Olympics will bring a lot of tourists to Britain.

“It will create a lot of jobs for people as well.

“Hopefully we can create a good impression and the people who visit will be impressed.”

Sean Maley, 10, said: “I personally really like sport and we will get to see the world’s very best athletes performing in our country, that’s brilliant.

“It will be great to watch athletes like Usain Bolt in action. I’m hoping the opening ceremony is brilliant as well.”
