THE race is on for schools in Hartlepool to sign up for a competition that aims to celebrate both the Olympics and Recycle Week.
Hartlepool Borough Council’s waste and environmental services team is running a contest for the best Olympic-themed outfit created from recycled clothes and materials.
Six schools have already agreed to take part, but others are being urged to enter before the Friday, June 15 deadline.
Kate Ainger, the council’s environmental projects officer, said: “Schools involved in the competition will be given a bag of materials supplied by the local charity Epilepsy Outlook to create their designs.
“Emphasis will be placed on the quality of design and originality, and all of the outfits created will be put on display in the town’s Middleton Grange Shopping Centre on June 18, 19 and 20 during Recycle Week.
“The winning design will be chosen via a public vote that will take place during that week.”
There will be a range of prizes, including a laptop and cash, which are being supplied by sponsors Valpak, Nathan’s Wastesavers and Biffa.
Schools wishing to take part should contact Paul Hurwood at the council on (01429) 284276 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org to register for their bag of materials.
