HARTLEPOOL secondary schools are among the worst in the country according to new figures released by inspectors.

Ofsted has released an official table giving percentages of pupils attending good or outstanding secondary schools by local authority area in England.

In Hartlepool it stands at just 35 per cent, which puts the town fourth bottom nationally.

But there is brighter news when it comes to primary school children attending good or outstanding schools.

Again, the table gives the percentages of pupils attending good or outstanding primary schools by local authority area in England.

And in town, the figure is 85 per cent, putting Hartlepool in the top 40 nationally.
