A SINGLE mum has told how she was devastated when she was told her son had missed out on her first three choices for a primary school place.

Kendra Raw, 26, who lives in the King Oswy area of Hartlepool, is mum to McKenzie Roberts, four.

I was devastated when I found out, I just broke down. I didn’t know what to do. To not get any of our choices is just awful.

He is also a current nursery pupil at Barnard Grove Primary, and hoped to go to school there.

His mum selected Clavering Primary and West View Primary as her second and third choices, but again she has not received any of her alternatives.

McKenzie has also been told that he is to go to Ward Jackson School which will prove very difficult as his mum does not drive.

Kendra said: “I have checked the buses and we will have to take a 20 to 30-minute bus ride to the town centre and be dropped off at the library in York Road, then walk from there down to the school behind the Royal Mail.

“McKenzie is going to struggle doing a full day at school to start with, as he only does half days at nursery at the minute.

“But if he’s got a bus ride and a decent walk to school each morning he is going to be tired before he even gets there.

“I was devastated when I found out, I just broke down. I didn’t know what to do.

“If I’d have been given my second or third choice then I would have still been disappointed that he didn’t get in Barnard Grove, but it wouldn’t have been that bad.

“But to not get any of our choices is just awful.”
