It was started about a year ago when the artists agreed to each paint a board and transform them into a wonderful wall-mounted mural for the school’s science department.

And now the work, which is based on evolution and the science behind it, is ready to be hung up.

Today, Jeremy Gribben, director of arts at the school, said: “This is a brilliant piece of art work and the artists deserve some recognition for it.

“We’re very proud of these people, they’re brilliant and this mural is a testament to their talents.

“We were delighted when they agreed to paint the mural and we decided to put it in the science department because we’d just had the walls painted and they were bare. Having it hung up in the school will be a reminder to everyone just how talented and valued they are.”

The group of artists, who range from 16 years old up to mid 70s, help out in the school’s art department and at the same time get to express their creative sides by having use of the facilities there.

Mr Gribben said that as well as being nice to have around, they were also an inspiration to pupils of all ages in school and college.

He said: “Some of them are almost professional painters in their own right, that’s how talented they are. Other students see the work they do and get inspired it as well which is a fantastic thing.

“The communication between them and the students is such a lovely thing to see.”
