Students pamper soldiers

COLLEGE students will be pampering a group of soldiers fresh from a tour of Afghanistan.

East Durham College apprentices will be treating the brave members of Ripon-based 21 Engineer Regiment as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

The Peterlee-based college’s hair and beauty apprentices will be giving various treatments to the soldiers.

Catering apprentices will then prepare and serve a delicious three-course meal for the regiment members in the college’s Scene1 restaurant.

To finish off the day the college’s fully trained physiotherapists have offered to give them a professional sports massage.

Preparations are well underway at the Willerby Grove-based site as the apprentices get ready to take part in a series of activities and events as part of the week, designed to celebrate and promote Apprenticeship.

National Apprenticeship Week, now in its firth year, will take place across England from Monday, February 6 to Friday, February 10.

Also as part of the week, horticultural apprentices will visit St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham and help maintain its grounds.

A group of eight equine apprentices will volunteer and help out at the Cleveland Mounted Police headquarters.
