Hartlepool Divers Club, based in Harbour Walk, at the Marina, is holding a ‘try dive’ event on Sunday.

It is aimed at giving would-be divers of all ages an insight into what the activity is like so they can decide if it is for them.

The free session will be held in the swimming pool at Dyke House School, off Raby Road, on Sunday afternoon between 2.20pm and 3.30pm.

The club hosts the free sessions – which are for those aged 14 and over only – on an annual basis, and hopes to teach people how to dive safely.

Dave Armstrong, the club’s training officer, said: “The idea is for people to see if they like it. All they have to do is being their costumes or shorts and a T-shirt and a towel and we will provide the rest.”

He said some people want to learn to dive and others just want to learn the basics for holidays.

Club members meet every Thursday and Sunday between 8pm and 10pm at the Marina.

Anyone who wants to join the ‘try dive’ sessions needs to contact 07940 524569 or send an email to [email protected] so the club has an idea of numbers attending.

All equipment will be provided on the day by the club and qualified instructors will guide people through the basics, including entering the water and breathing under water.
