CONGRATULATIONS to St Aidan’s Primary School in Hartlepool who have topped the table in the Mail-backed Shop for Schools competition.

The Foggy Furze school was the best supported out of 26 primary schools and nurseries that took part in the initiative with Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

St Aidan’s, and every one that took part, can now look forward to choosing from a wide selection of new equipment to get the new term off to a great start.

St Aidan’s led the Shop for Schools league table for a number of weeks as parents and their friends converted their receipts from the shopping centre into points for the school.

Delighted deputy headteacher Judith Skirving said: “We are just over the moon.

“We are amazed at the amount of weeks we were number one and that our families have managed to keep it going throughout the weeks.

“I would also like to say a really big thank you to all our families for their support.

“Quite a lot have made a real effort in their collecting so we are really grateful.

“Their support will benefit the children and we are looking forward to seeing what we can get.”

Shop for Schools worked by the shopping centre awarding one point for every pound spent in Middleton Grange.

Each school are awarded prize vouchers to buy things like laptop computers, sports kits and book collections.

A school’s total is calculated by dividing the total number of points collected by the number of pupils.

Schools could also get a boost from the bonus points printed in the Mail.
