A Teesside nature reserve is inviting people to celebrate International Dawn Chorus Day on May 1.

The early morning walk to watch the sunrise and hear nature’s song takes place at RSPB Saltholme.

Visitors to the site, near Stockton-on-Tees, will be able to take in sights and sounds rarely experienced, on a two to three-mile walk around the reserve.

The event will start at 4.30am and finish at 7.30am with a breakfast bun in the cafe.

Experienced staff and volunteers will be on hand to help visitors identify birds and wildlife during the walk.

It is advised visitors come dressed appropriately for the weather and time of day.

The event is £12 for members and £15 for non members. Spaces are limited to 30 people, so booking is essential. Contact RSPB Saltholme on 01642 546625 or call at the reserve.

Visitor Experience Officer Sarah Pearce said: “Early mornings at Saltholme are magical.

“Our unique location provides the perfect setting to experience the amazing dawn chorus as the sun rises. It will be a morning to remember.”
