AN exercise programme for people with arthritis or mobility problems will get underway later this month.
The nine-week Hartlepool Exercise for Life Programme is run by Hartlepool Council starting on Wednesday, October 19.
Sessions take place every Wednesday between 11.30am-12.30pm at the newly refurbished Studio Room in the Mill House Leisure Centre, in Raby Road.
Lorraine Harrison, who is co-ordinating the programme, said: “This particular programme will be low-level supervised exercise focusing on strength and balance work.
“It is a myth that exercise is bad for arthritis. In fact the opposite is true – appropriate exercise can reduce stiffness in the joints which permits a greater range of movement and increased mobility.
“With the winter months almost upon us, now is the perfect time for people with arthritis to exercise regularly.
“This programme is also tailored for people with mobility problems and those recovering from operations such as knee and hip replacements.”
