A PRIMARY school pupil has stunned the sporting world by excelling at moto cross at the tender age of nine years old.
Brooklyn Gibson is so good at it, he’s already represented Britain.
Now his skills have also put him in the running for a Pride of Hartlepool award.
His proud mum, Sharon Gibson, 29, from Owton Manor, told us: “He has put everything into it.”
Sharon, who is married to Stephen Gibson, 33, and has four other children, added: “He has done amazingly well.”
Even more remarkable is that Brooklyn has only been involved in the sport for little over a year.
Sharon, who is also mum to Shanice, 11, Latasha, seven, Demie-Lee, aged four, and Tallice, aged two, added: “He just started to learn motocross last year and was loving the challenges and the practising until it was all taken away from him.”
The family’s home was burgled a week before Christmas in 2012 and the motor cross bikes were among the items taken.
Sharon praised a company called Boss Bikes which provided a bike for Brooklyn to use.
“It made everyone’s Christmas and it made Brooklyn smile. He joined the North East Moto Cross Championship, which held 10 rounds of racing.
“He had his ups and downs but worked so hard to be up front. He got third overall and got to take place in the British Team event at Foxhills, Swindon.”
The televised event saw Brooklyn’s team finish runners-up and even though his bike cut out, he “finished the rest of the race on foot” to make sure he picked up a point for his team,” said his proud mum.
Brooklyn joins a fabulous line-up of entrants for Pride of Hartlepool.
Ten categories are open for entries and they are Sporting Achievement; Community Group; Community Champion; Student of the Year; Fundraiser of the Year; Child of Courage; Local Hero; Green Champion; Emergency Services and Young Performer of the Year.
The deadline for the awards has now been extended so that people have until early April to put forward their favourites.
