A CONCERNED walker called the coastguard after spotting what they thought was a hang glider that had smashed into the side of a cliff.
But after a search by Coastguard officials it was found to be a gazebo, which had blown away from a caravan at the nearby Crimdon Dene Caravan Park a couple of days ago.
The gazebo had become stuck on the side of the cliff, before it was spotted by the concerned walker who saw the smashed poles and fabric at about 10.40am on Sunday.
A spokesman for the Coastguard said it did look like a hang glider from the beach.
He added that it was in too dangerous a position to remove and said they would inform Durham County Council of the problem today.
