And it has been revealed that the Hartlepool man’s children suffered further anguish when their nine-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cleo, died of natural causes a month ago.

Struggling Kayleigh, 16, Ellie, eight, and Leah, five, are said to be desperate for their dad to return home and know he is safe and well.

Darren’s ex-wife, Lisa Gleaves, said: “We as a family are releasing this photo of Darren in the hope that people take time to think once again whether they have seen him or have any information as to his whereabouts.

“Even if people don’t think it’s anything significant, please do call in and let the police decide. You would be helping a family who is desperate to see Darren come home.”

Darren, 36, was last seen at an address in the Rossmere area of Hartlepool at around 5.30pm on Sunday, January 9.

He is described as 5ft 8ins-tall, white, with a shaved head and tattoos on his hands and arms.

He was last seen wearing a blue coloured sweater, dark blue jeans or bottoms and trainers and had an earring in his left ear.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on (01642) 326326 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
