ORGANISERS of this year’s Greatham Feast are hoping the good weather holds for a packed weekend of fun events.
The village will celebrate the summer with a host of activities for this – the 552nd feats – which aims to unite the community.
A dedicated team of four volunteers have ben working hard to organise all the activities which will take place between Thursday, June 20, to Sunday, June 23.
But the important task of choosing a Feast Queen will take place tomorrow at Greatham Community Centre.
Hopefuls will vie for the crown during a disco for all the village children. It takes place between 6pm-9pm.
The feast kicks off with a five-a-side football tournament on Greatham sports field at 5pm, followed by pub games in the Hope and Anchor.
On Friday, Greatham Primary School will join the village for a church service at 10am, followed by the baby show and pensioners’ tea at the community centre.
On the night, the Bull and Dog pub will hold a barbecue and yard of ale challenge.
Saturday sees the grand fancy dress parade from The Smiths Arms, at 1pm.
Everyone will then converge on The Green for an afternoon of fun, games and entertainment from groups including The Peppermints girl band, Northern School of Music, Val Armstrong School of Dance and Lil Diamondz plus lots of amusements and stalls.
The Hobbies will entertain with a show on the night, and Sunday sees a family sports afternoon, also on The Green, with races and a children’s tea.
Committee member Angela McKie said: “We have decided to stick with activities that have always proved popular in the past.
“People come from all over.
“Hopefully, we will have the kind of weather we have had this week and we will have a fantastic weekend.”
