Fewer jobless in latest figures

HARTLEPOOL now has the sixth highest percentage of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance in the country, the latest figures show.

There were 4,109 people claiming the benefit last month compared to 4,192 claiming during the previous month.

The figure accounts for 7.1 per cent of the working age population in Hartlepool and places the town sixth highest for the percentage of claimant, an improvement from fourth place in recent months.
