THE location of a car boot sale has been changed due to filming for a popular TV show.

Council chiefs say there will be a slight change of location for tomorrow’s car boot sale at Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience (HME).

The temporary change is because the main car park area will be occupied by vehicles from a television production company, which is filming some scenes for the BBC’s new series of Inspector George Gently in the town.

The monthly event normally takes place in the car park in front of the HME main entrance, but for this month only it is being relocated to the HME’s north-west car park area on the corner of Marina Way and The Highlight.

The car boot sale is on from 8.30am to 1pm. Admission for sellers, from 7.30am, costs £8 for a car or £12 for a van. No booking is needed.

Entry for buyers is normally 50p per person but for this month only it is free in a special post-Easter offer.

Katie Hammond, Hartlepool Borough Council’s cultural events officer, said: “Our monthly car boot sale is a great opportunity to de-clutter your house or garage and make a bit of extra money as well.

“It’s also a fun trip out for all the family and a chance to snap up a bargain.”

The company behind BBC1’s Inspector George Gently series, which features former The Professionals actor Martin Shaw in the title role, filmed in Seaton Carew and Horden last year.
