ANYONE interested in putting themselves forward to be a councillor in Hartlepool at the forthcoming elections can find out more at a briefing session.
On Thursday, May 22, residents in Hartlepool will be going to the polls to elect 11 borough councillors for wards across the town.
The local elections will be held on the same day as the polls to elect Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
One councillor will be elected to each of the 11 wards in Hartlepool and will serve for a term of four years.
Electors can vote either in person at their allocated polling station on the day of the poll or by post.
Meanwhile, anyone who has not yet registered to vote is being reminded that they need to be on the electoral register for this year’s May elections.
Those eligible to vote have until May 6 to make sure they are on the electoral register, or until May 7 to submit a completed request to vote by post application.
For anyone interested in becoming a councillor, a briefing session will be held in the Civic Centre, on Saturday, April 12 at 10am.
Nomination packs are expected to be available for people to put themselves forward in the week leading up to the briefing session.
The close of nominations for anyone wishing to stand will then be 4pm on Thursday, April 24.
Residents can be a candidate if they are aged 18 or over, on the electoral register, and lived, worked or owned property in Hartlepool for at least a year.
