GYM staff will be playing Cupid today when they get in the Valentine’s Day spirit.

The Fit4Less gym, in Easington Road, Hartlepool, is hosting a singles day.

The free event is open to members and non-members. Those taking part will be given a number to pin on their best gym gear.

They can then leave messages with the number of the person who caught their eye on ‘Be My Valentine’ cards which will be left in a special box, ready for their potential match to be revealed.

Becky Lake, the gym’s activity manager, said: “The gym is supposed to be where you meet people, so we thought Valentine’s Day would be the perfect opportunity to help spread some romance.

“So if people see anyone who catches their eye, they can come to the desk and leave the numbers of the people they like.

“Anybody can come along – we are saying to all our members to bring their single friends and to wear their best gym clothes so they can attract the right person.”

Becky, who is single, said she will be getting involved in the action, adding: “People have been saying I’m going to meet my perfect husband, why not?

“I’m confident we will be pairing up some couples today.”

The gym will also be decked out with hearts and balloons.
