ONE of the men arrested after police stopped a truck on a busy dual carriageway and found two guns is from Hartlepool.

Police swooped on the vehicle as it headed along the eastbound carriageway of the A66, just outside Darlington, at around 6.20pm on Thursday.

Two firearms were found in the silver and blue Mitsubishi Animal pick-up and the driver, a 46-year-old man from Hartlepool, was arrested.

Shortly after, police were sent to an address in Darlington where another man, aged 49, was also arrested.

Both were taken to Spennymoor police office to be questioned and are still in police custody.

Further details will appear in Saturday’s Mail.
