FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a fish shop where smoke alarms were sounding but found it was a bin ablaze in the rear alley behind it.

Two fire engines went to Fish Face, on The Front, in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, at 6.10am on Sunday, September 14.

The eaterie’s smoke alarms had been activated and crews believed there may have been a fire inside.

But upon arrival they discovered it was actually a bin on fire in the back alley which had set the alarms off.

Firefighters used one water jet to extinguish the blaze by about 6.46am.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: “A refuse container on fire in the back alley set off alarms in the fish shop.”

She added that it is not known what started the fire.
