A PUPPY had to be rescued from underneath a shed after it got stuck when chasing a rabbit.

Firefighters from Peterlee were called to Dene Road in Blackhall Colliery at 11.30am yesterday after the pet’s owners could not free the dog.

The terrier bitch was not trapped and could freely move about under the structure, but was unable to squeeze back out.

The pup, aged between nine and 12 months old, had been there for 15 minutes when its family called for help.

The crew used spreading equipment used to free people from cars to lift the corner of the building and reach the animal, which did not appear distressed.

She was freed and escaped uninjured.

The firefighters said the dogs’s owner, who had been upset by what happened, was grateful to the team for their efforts.

The crew had been at a community event when it was called to the house.
