A new-look pub on Hartlepool Marina is hoping to be a haven for football fans and karaoke fans alike now it has opened its doors to punters.
The Compass Rose is open for business after taking over and renovating former Irish bar Rosie O’Gradys in time for football season.
The pub, at Navigation Point, has transformed its outdoor area with a beer garden and introduced new ales, lagers and cocktails that are sure to delight customers.
General manager Matthew Spence said he hopes it will be a success with local residents.
He said: “We have taken over the old Irish bar and going forward we have tried to make it into a local pub focusing on local residents.
“We have given it a nautical theme to coincide with the marina, but we’re trying to keep it a pub that is not too pretentious or too stylish, just somewhere for people to go for a pint of beer and a packet of crisps.”
The pub was taken over by private company Andrew Mcallister and Adrian Gaines in April and underwent four weeks of renovation.
Matthew said the pub had been open at the marina for around 12 years.
It has taken on eight staff, may of which are local students and is also looking to hire more for the busy summer period.
They also plan to hold regular charity nights for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as well as weekly karaoke nights on Wednesdays from 6pm to 11pm and a Friday and Saturday from 7pm to midnight.
Matthew added: “Not many people know we are back open so we want to let our customers know. “We hope to be popular with football fans as we’re only five minutes away from the stadium, so we are offering Hartlepool United season ticket holders special drinks offers and match day specials. “On Saturday we even had two Hartlepool United players in who we’re really impressed with what we’ve done.
“We have a new outdoor area with astro turf that is comfortable for residents to sit out on a nice day and we plan to put speakers out there so people can listen to the match. “We have also got a projector screen up inside so people can watch Sky Sports and the football.”
