LIFEBOAT volunteers went to the rescue of a fishing boat that had broken down.

Hartlepool’s inshore lifeboat spent 40 minutes towing the 22ft fishing vessel to Hartlepool Marina, where the man on board was met by the HM Coastguard team and given safety and repair advice.

Humber Coastguard was alerted to the broken-down boat, from Hartlepool, around 9.30am yesterday.

It had broken down about one and a half miles from Redcar, close to the Teesside Offshore Windfarm.

Redcar’s inshore lifeboat met the vessel and towed it halfway to Hartlepool, before Hartlepool’s inshore lifeboat took over in the rescue before towing it back into the marina.
