OLYMPIC spirit came to East Durham and Hartlepool and lit up the faces of the awaiting crowds.
The Olympic torch passed through Peterlee, Horden, Blackhall and Crimdon before arriving in Hartlepool just before lunchtime.
Streets along the route have been lined with people who came out in their thousands to watch the historic moment.
And a red hot atmosphere greeted the flame at Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience, where the team of runners stopped for a break.
The torch is set to head past Hartlepool College of Further Education, in Stockton Street, before stopping at Burn Road roundabout.
It will then move on to Billingham and Sedgefield.
A team of Hartlepool Mail reporters have been covering the flame’s journey as it is passes from person to person.
We have been uploading videos, photos and reaction live from the scene onto our website.
