CHARITABLE cafe staff are hosting a flipping good Shrove Tuesday event today.
A Place In The Park, in Ward Jackson Park, Hartlepool, is hosting the traditional pancake event after being asked to do so by Hartlepool Rotary Club.
Rotary Club members approached Place In The Park boss Maria Harrison and asked her to help them host the event in a bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research.
The event was to be held today with hungry punters paying £3 for a freshly made pancake with a choice of toppings and either a juice or a coffee to accompany their Shrove Tuesday snack.
Maria said she and the staff at the cafe were all looking forward to the event and raising as much money as they possibly could for such a worthy cause.
Maria said : “The Rotary Club asked me to do the event and all the money raised will got to help Macmillan Cancer Support.
“People can purchase tickets beforehand for just £3 or they can just turn up and buy one on the day.
“We’ve done this for the last few years and I must admit, as soon as the doors are open people are coming in for a pancake.
“I never thought it would be so successful.
“I just never move away from the stove flipping pancakes all day.”
She added: “We do traditional topping such as syrup, lemon juice, orange juice and sugar.
“It’s very much a traditional pancake.
“People don’t have to pay a lot but the money they do pay helps an awful lot for the charity that the Rotary Club has chosen.
“Macmillan Cancer Support is a really worthy cause because cancer affects so many people.
“We’d like as many people to come along as possible to celebrate this very traditional event in aid of a brilliant charity.”
