A CAFE and a hotel are set to go flipping crazy for charity.

The Place in the Park Cafe, in Ward Jackson Park, and the Grand Hotel, in Swainson Street, are holding Pancake Day feasts.

The Hartlepool businesses will be selling tickets and welcoming people in for a cuppa and pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, which lands on February 21, with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The events are being organised by the Rotary Club of Hartlepool and will run from 9am-4pm.

Ted Jackson, from the Rotary Club, said: “The idea of the pancake day came from the members of the local Rotary Club who hope that members of the public will support the good cause while at the same take the time to enjoy the tradition of pancake day for a very reasonable price.

“Representatives from both the Rotary Club and Macmillan Cancer Support will be in attendance at both venues on the day, when it is hoped that the local residents will get into the mood to enjoy the pancakes while supporting the good cause.”

Maria Harrison, who runs the park cafe, added: “It seems like a good idea and will be a lot of fun. Hopefully it will raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

“Lets hope plenty of people will pop in and we will raise a bit of money.

“We’ll have pancakes being flipped and drinks on the go. The hotel will be doing the same so plenty of people will be able to get to one or the other.”

Tickets, priced £3 each, can be bought at the Place in the Park and at the Grand Hotel.

They can also call Sheila or Ted Jackson on (01429) 275967.

Organisers say people can also pay at the door on the day.
