AN event aimed a breaking down barriers in the community has proved a success.

Home Group, which runs Stonham Services’ Stage Two at The Old Vicarage, in Station Road, Shotton Colliery, hosted Stonhambury, a Celebration of International Peace Day.

Bosses said it was a success with around 150 people attending.

Cris Warriner, Home Group client services manager, said: “It rained all day but we didn’t let the bad weather spoil our fun and we’re pleased to say that the local community supported us.

“We think we must have had around 150 people attend throughout the day and everyone enjoyed the live music from local bands. We decided to hold the event in support of World Peace Day and as part of that a few people dressed up as 1960s hippies.

“Our service has been based in the village for more than 25 years and we enjoy good relations with the community partly because of events like this. It provides an opportunity for neighbours to meet our young people and get to know them on a one to one basis.”
