A PATRIOTIC pub is planning a big celebration for St George’s Day.

The Park Inn, in Hartlepool, will celebrate England’s patron saint’s day all weekend in the lead-up to St George’s Day on Monday.

The pub, in Park Road, has been decked out with St George flags and other patriotic decorations.

Licensee Rick Hanlon said the pub has got into the St George spirit for the past four years.

He added: “We are dressing the pub up with lots of decorations especially around the bar.

“We always put something very English on the big screen like the Dambusters or 1966 World Cup final.

“It always goes down well.”

Rick also thinks the day should be celebrated more and made an official bank holiday.

He said: “I’m not knocking a multi-cultural society, but St George’s Day can be part of that.

“The Irish have St Partrick’s Day and I think everyone should be proud of their own nationality.”
