A FISHING boat crew had to be rescued when the vessel got lost in thick fog.
Hartlepool’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteer lifeboat crew went to the assistance of the 16ft fishing boat that had been lost in the heavy mist which lingered over the town and surrounding areas on Sunday.
The crew radioed for help at 9.57am on Sunday and Hartlepool’s all-weather lifeboat, the Betty Huntbatch, was launched.
The life-saving team on board managed to hunt down the lost boat one mile off the Heugh Breakwater at 10.10am.
Hartlepool RNLI volunteer lifeboat operations manager, Mike Craddy, said: “The fishing boat’s chart plotter has gone down and the skipper had no way of knowing where they were.
“The vessel, with its two crew members, was escorted back to the safety of Hartlepool Marina.”
