TWO schoolboys hope to hit the heights after helping a top team to outstanding success.
Kyle Bagnall and Keiran Gething, who attend Dene Community School of Technology, in Peterlee, play for Sunderland AFC Foundation Reds football team.
The team has just won the Russell Foster Under 14s Premier League after notching up an impressive haul of achievements.
Kyle, the league’s top scorer with 28 goals, was named man of the match nine times.
Team manager Anthony Nelson said: “I’m really proud of them. We were always close to winning the league and always finished second or third, but since Kyle and Keiran signed up after joining us from Easington Buzzards, they pushed us on that little bit further.
“I expect big things from them.”
The boys’ team, one of 14 in the league, were only beaten once in 28 games over the course of the season.
This is the third time the boys have lifted a league trophy in four years, having helped their previous team to victory.
The team is the only one in the league which does not feature academy players.
Keiran, 14, has had trials for Hartlepool United and Kyle, 14, had trials for Middlesbrough.
Keiran’s father Steven, a PE teacher at the boys’ Manor Way-based school, said: “Since they signed, it’s the first time a team from the SAFC Foundation has won the Premier League in any age group. The school is so proud of the lads.
“Keiran and Kyle will be presented with their trophies at the Stadium of Light next season during a top Premier game.”
