A FOOTBALLER was taken to hospital after being injured during a match.
The 26-year-old was playing for Seaton Carew FC against Rovers at Grayfields, in Hartlepool, yesterday morning when he suffered the leg injury just minutes into the game.
An ambulance was called to the sports field, off Jesmond Road, at 10.40am.
A rapid response ambulance paramedic arrived six minutes later at 10.46am.
An ambulance crew got to the pitch at 11.48am.
Paramedics tended to the player, who had suffered an injury to the shin area of his leg, and he was transported to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton for treatment.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call to Grayfields for a 26-year-old man.
“It was reported that he had suffered a below-the-knee shin injury.
“He was take to the University Hospital of North Tees for treatment.”
